I studied Medicine (March 1996 – February 2002, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul) and further specialized as a psychiatrist (March 2003 – April 2005, Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre) in Brazil. I left my already settled private practice (February 2005 – November 2005, Porto Alegre) to learn the methodology of fMRI to Germany, which was extended to a doctorate (April 2006 – March 2010, University of Heidelberg) and two post-doctorates in this field of research (April 2010 – April 2012, Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, Munich / May 2012 – Jan 2016, University Medical Center Göttingen).
Since 2016 my research group (Systems Neuroscience and Imaging in Psychiatry, focus on multimodal imaging for tracking neural networks and their dynamic changes in response to pharmacological and brain stimulation interventions. We use fMRI as a tool to elucidate underlying mechanisms that could contribute to the biologically-oriented diagnosis of psychiatric disorders, especially affective disorders, and more precise treatments.
